Dear amazing parents,
This week:
* We had three gyms this week. The first gym was for N.V's birthday gym. The second gym was a bonus gym with Mr. Marta's class. We played Dungeon Ball. Friday we have our regular gym and we are playing "Stores".
* We have been learning about the provinces. So far we have learned about Canada, British Columbia and Alberta. Here is an interesting fact about Alberta: the wild rose is the official flower. West Edmonton Mall has the biggest parking lot in the world! Today we are learning about Saskatchewan.
* In outdoor ed. we made nature boats. The only thing we used that wasn't nature was string. Ms. Sloboda had a wheelbarrow with water in it. First we checked if they could float. Then she made a storm with the hose and we tested if our boats could survive a storm. We pretended one of the rocks in the wheelbarrow was like an iceberg from Titanic.
* This week in km. club we started to go back to Spencer field.
* In math we learned some strategies for 2-digit subtraction. They are place value and rounding up.
* In reading we are all working on a book club! There is Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School and other Scary Things, The Chicken Squad, The Escapades of Clint McCool, and Nate the Great.
* We are prepping for student led conferences. We are excited for you to come see our classroom and our work next Wednesday.
* This week we had soccer club at lunch recess.

Wow! I had no idea that West Edmonton Mall had the biggest parking lot in the world. Looking forward to the student led conference!
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing. I think the West Edmonton Mall used to be the largest mall in the world also? Is that still true??
ReplyDeleteWest Edmonton Mall was the biggest mall in the world until 2004. Now Dubai Mall is the biggest mall in the world. It is bigger than 50 soccer fields.
DeleteFrom, Mrs. Marta's amazing students.
I look forward to hearing about more interesting facts about the different provinces in Canada.
ReplyDeleteHave you figured out which province is the largest and which is the smallest?
-S.W.'s mom
We found out that Nunavut is the biggest province (territory actually!) and Prince Edward Island is the smallest.
