Friday Nov. 25, 2022

 Dear amazing families,

This week:

* We learned about the penguin's life cycle (egg, chick, fledgling and adult penguin) and the frog life cycle (egg, tadpole, froglet, adult frog).

* In science, we learned about metamorphic and non-metamorphic life cycles. Metamorphic means that during the life cycles the animals will change. An example, is the frog life cycle. When it is a tadpole it has a long tail, no legs and is black. When it is an adult frog it is green, has no tail and has four legs. Non-metamorphic means it doesn't change it just grows bigger. An example is a penguin.

* Today we celebrated S.V.'s birthday. He picked a Robert Munsch book for his story. We will have his birthday gym on Monday (the gym is closed today).

* In gym, we played museum, zombie tag, diamond tag, everybody's it tag, evolution and jewel thief. We also practiced throwing at the targets. At the end of gym we do "calm bodies".

* In the classroom we did "GoNoodle".

* In music, we have been practicing for the winter concert. Did you send in your notice to get your tickets?

* In Social Studies we have been learning about Vietnam's culture. This week we learned about customs, clothing and art.

* For art we made "Reindeer at the Window". The reindeer look like they are trying to get out of the window. You could make them any way you want... they just had to look like reindeer trying to get out the window. We used black, white, brown, blue and red paper. You can see them if you look way up at the window's of our classroom.

* In writing some people have been sharing the books that they have finished. We are also learning some different ways to say words. For example, for scared you could say frightened, terrified, horrified, afraid or spooked. During writing you can write about anything. During the work on write Mrs. Marta meets with us to get our stories to type. We also put strengths and goals in our writing folders.

This week E.B. read a story about Lisa and a tiger. Then Mrs. Marta showed us a picture of her petting a tiger. She was very frightened, petrified and spooked.

* We got postcards from T.N.'s grandpa's cousin in Denmark. We also got a postcard from Taiwan. That is only our second postcard from Asia.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Friday November 18, 2022

 Dear amazing families,

This week we:

* We watched 2 Mojo videos and 1 travel kids.

    - We learned about neurons in the brain. To grow your brain you have to learn challenging things.

- Mojo also taught us that it is okay to ask for help, mistakes are good. We also learned to say, "I can't do it YET!"

* In writing we have been learning some descriptive words. Sometimes we call them fancy words. Yesterday we found fancy words for little (teensy weensy, tiny, small), ran (sped, dashed, sprinted) and said (answered, replied, yelled). Mrs. Marta would like us to use fancy words in our writing.

* In gym this week we played Dungeon Ball, Squirrel Tag, Pirate Battle, Skittles and Diamond Tag. We also practiced throwing at the targets on the wall.

* At reading sometimes we read with a grown up. Some people are doing book clubs and the others are reading their own books. We also do book studies in reading.

* This week we got postcards from Germany and the Czech Republic. We sent postcards to the U.S.A. and The Netherlands.

* In music we are practicing songs for the winter concert. Our finale is "When Will the Holidays Come?". We are also doing a song with another class and we are doing "Rock n' Roll Snowman".

* Tuesday was fun pizza lunch day! We had mini pizzas.

* In science, we are making life cycles of a frog.

* In math we are learning how to do addition with partitioning. Some people started learning how to do addition with expanded form this week.

We hope you enjoy the weekend.

Friday November 4, 2022

 Dear fabulous families,

This week:

* We got some new postcards. This week our postcards came from Maryland, U.S.A., Belarus (in Europe) and Michigan, U.S.A. We sent postcards to Slovenia and Taiwan. Last week we got a postcard from L.S. grandmother in Osaka Japan and T.N.'s Auntie in Yellowknife.

* Yesterday we watched the movie The One and Only Ivan. At the movie we could have blankets, stuffies, pillows and snacks. Most people liked the movie better than the book. Lots of people liked both.

* On Wednesday Ms. Glover came in and did storymaking with us. She gave us lots of random pieces of stuff and we had to make up a story with it.

* In music we were practicing our song for next week's assembly.

* In stem we used blocks to try and make triangles. We made a big triangle with a bunch of little triangles.

* On Halloween we started a stem challenge. You had specific supplies and you had to make a structure that could hold a bunch of skeletons and pumpkins.

* On Halloween we made spider cupcakes.  We decorated the cupcake with frosting, sprinkles (for fur), smarties (for eyes) and licorice (for the legs).

* This week we learned a few new writing tips. For example, stories have characters, settings and problems. You could use any of these things to make an interesting story.

* Last Friday we had I.S-H.'s birthday. For gym she chose a lot of running games. We were VERY tired. For her book she chose The Tub People.

* In gym this week we did Diamond Tag, Zombie Tag, throwing practice, skittles, and calm bodies.

* In science we learned facts about two ecosystems named Antarctica and Grasslands. In grasslands there are many different types of flowers (there are hardly any trees) and many types of animals live there. One of the animals is called a bison. It looks kind of like a bull.
