Friday January 12, 2024

 Dear fantastic parents,

This week:

* In gym we played Diamond Tag, Skittles, Plank Tag and we also practiced throwing at the targets. This afternoon we will play Dungeon Ball with Div. 8 after we finish writing the blog.

* In math we practiced our addition and subtraction and also we started learning about multiplication. We learned how to multiply by 0 and 1. The rule for zero is that if you multiply by zero it always equals zero. The rule for X1 is that it is always the number you are multiplying by one.

* In Library we were going to listen to a story, but our librarian said we didn't have time. Then Mr. Marta and Mrs. Marta said yes we do! And we listened to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

* In Social Studies we started an indigenous art. It was about the legend of the ladybug. We also learned that there are three indigenous groups in Canada: First Nations, Metis and Inuit.

We also learned a lot about Coast Salish art. They use different shapes like trigons, u-shapes, circles, ovals and crescents. They also mostly use the colours green, black and red in their art.

* We started learning handwriting this week. If you are in grade 3 you have to learn handwriting. If you are in grade 2 you could choose to do handwriting or practice your printing.

* In Music today we learned a little dance with sticks. The pattern was tap on your lap and click. With a partner you do right hand and hit them together and left hand and hit them together. We also learned about Johann Sebastian Bach.

* Mrs. Marta made a boring story and then we helped her jazz it up by adding more details and interesting events.

We hope you have a spectacular day!

Friday Nov. 17, 2023

 Dear caring families,

This week we:

* Added a piece to chess. It is called the "rook". The rook can move forward, sideways or backwards as many spaces as it wants in a straight line. It can NOT go diagonal or jump over pieces. Today we played with the pawns, the bishops and the rooks. The goal was to get one pawn to the other side.

* We are having gym this afternoon with Mr. Marta's class. We will play Dungeon Ball. It will be fun! On Wednesday we played Everybody's It Tag and Octopus.

* In music we played Make a Pizza and we used the sticks and the shaker eggs. There was a tiny circle for the pizza dough. We had to listen for the rhythm in the music and then we did different movements like rolling, patting and shaking the cheese on.

* Today is fantastic Friday. We pick a stick with someone's name on it. Whoever it is we spy on them for the whole day. Then in the afternoon we compliment them for something nice they did today.

* In math we have been learning how to add up coins. We also learned the difference between dollars and cents. It took us a few days because it was hard.

* This morning we had library. We got to pick a new book and read in the library.

* Today is P.B.'s birthday. She isn't here so we will celebrate her birthday on Tuesday.

* Yesterday we met our new student teacher. His name is Mr. K. He will start teaching after Christmas Break.

* This week L.W., P.B. and E.B. shared their writing with the class.

Remember there is no school for students on Monday!

Have a terrific long weekend!

Dear magnificent families,

This week we:

* Had gym with division 8. We played Dungeon Ball. In gym we also practiced dribbling and trapping. We played a game called Treasure Hunt where you had to dribble the ball to collect bean bags for your team's hoop. We also played red light green light while you are dribbling. If you lost control of the ball you had to go back to the beginning. On Monday we had C.A's birthday gym. He chose to play soccer.

* We also celebrated E.B.'s birthday. She chose to pick all the gonoodle's. She also brought her own book from home for the birthday story.

* Are getting ice cream treats for selling so many coupon books!!!

* We had an assembly for Remembrance Day. People who are in guides or cubs or had indigenous regalia were part of the honour guard and were up at the front of the assembly. We also had two people carry the wreath up for our class.

* We have been practicing our lockdown drill. We have been building up to being quiet for 5 minutes with the lights off and the blinds closed.

* Today we have Fantastic Friday. We will be giving compliments to the people who's name we chose this morning.

* For Remembrance Day we did an art/writing project. We wrote about why we wear a poppy and made three poppies for our art work.

* We got a postcard from Singapore from M.'s cousin. We learned that Singapore is beautiful and has delicious food. They also had a gorgeous art gallery. They also had a mall that was perfect for a shop-a-holic!

Remember there is no school on Monday.

We hope you have an amazing weekend!

Friday October 27, 2023

Dear incredible families,

This week:

* We had gym. We played "Hot Dog Tag", "Dungeon Ball", and "Plank Tag". We also practiced throwing. We worked on distance and accuracy.

* Today we had our first ever Fantastic Friday. Everybody gets a person's name in the class in the morning. They have to watch them all day (NOT STALKING) and catch them doing nice things. At the end of the day we will give them compliments about things we saw they were doing that are nice.

* This weekend is I.S.H.'s birthday! We will celebrate on Monday. I.S.H. also brought in some cool bird's nests to show us this afternoon.

* In music we did the cup song with a red cup. You do moves in a specific order while you sing a song. This time we did the Monster Mash. We also played Witch's Stew. We put a lot of gross stuff in like eyeballs, spiders, bones, blood, stardust, witch prunes, tentacles and special potions. Then we put Mr. Murray and Mrs. Jones in! We also did a Halloween Line Rider.

* In Stem we built treehouses with cardboard, bottles, tin cans, plastic scraps and paper.

* We learned about how important sleep is. School aged kids should sleep 9-12 hours each night so that their brain gets lots of rest and their body can grow. We learned about the sleep stages (sleep cycle). It's important for your brain to go through all the stages.

* In Science we learned about the puffin life cycle. The stages are: egg, puffling, fledgling and adult.

* In Chess we played with the pawns again, and introduced the bishops. We know how both of those pieces move now.

* In art we watched arthub and learned how to draw a sea turtle. We also coloured them in and brought them home to show our parents. We were trying to make them as realistic as we could.

* We started book club this week. Some people from Mr. Marta's class and some people from our class our doing it. There are four book clubs going right now. If you aren't in a book club yet, you will get a chance later. In book club, your club has to read the same pages from the same book. You also have to write a prediction, six things we're wondering and after we write the summary. The titles of the book are: Swindle, The Last Firehawk, Alvin Ho and Clint McCool.

* In math we started learning about the coins in Canada. After we learned about them, we did a math sheet where we had to match the coins to how much they are worth.

* We also watch the Mojo video #4 about Growth Mindset. We learned that to make your brain grow you need to try challenging things.

* This week we also did GoNoodle. We can try it at home for some fun exercise!

* This morning we had an assembly. We sang the O Canada song and the welcome song. This time there were grade 4 and 5 students as our drum leaders. While they played we could use our hands as drums. We were also going to watch a video but the computer wouldn't connect to the projector.

* We are VERY excited because tonight is the Halloween Dance!!!

We hope you have a spooktastic weekend!

* In Writing we learned that once we have finished writing a story we can have it typed and read it to the class. Then we can put it in the student author box.  This week I.S.H. read her story to us called The Giraffe and the Necklace. J.M is going to read us her story this afternoon. S.C-J. is waiting for Mrs. Marta to finish typing hers.

 Dear amazing families,

This week we:

* Did Km. Club. We run laps around the field. Every time you do five laps you get a sticker for your running chart. We keep our water bottles on the benches outside.

* Today in Science we drew a picture of the ecosystem of the nature playground. Yesterday we went to the nature playground, did some observations and wrote down living and nonliving things we saw.

* This morning we had a fire drill. It was really loud, but we were still inside when it turned off. We went outside and lined up on the back field. Then we listened to the principal and went back inside. When we left the classroom we had to remember to close the door.

* This week in math we did a math sheet that had math, then a section that had bonus questions, and then a section that had super duper bonus questions. For math we were practicing the "10 ands". For example if you add 10+5 you get 15

* In art we made a polar bear drawing that was very cute. We are doing it for the school fundraiser. When we send our pictures in our parents will get a chance to order art cards, mugs or even bags with our art on it.

* In music we did a little bean bag song and passed it around.

* In gym we played zombie tag and jewel thief. We also practiced dribbling and trapping the soccer ball.

* In STEM first we heard a story. Then we got blocks, magnets or Lego. We had to build a house, treehouse or fort. We had to do it with a group and work together.
