Dear amazing families,

This week:

* We made penguin art. We had a paper and we drew swirls with cool and warm colours. We used pastels. The next part was we watched a how-to draw a penguin video and then we drew a penguin. We are gluing the penguin on top of the swirls.

* We also had gym. We had a special gym for H.C.'s birthday. She chose to play octopus. On Monday Mr. Marta was showing us how to throw. We threw beanbags, Eurotech balls and whiffle balls. When we threw them we didn't pick them up at first, by the end there was a big mess... but we cleaned it up. We also have gym this afternoon. We are going to play four corner soccer.

* This week in math we have been finishing our Term 1 math. If we were finished we were playing math games. Some of the math games are: Stack it up +9, Fish for 10, Make 10 concentration and Stack it up + 10.

* We had chess on Monday. We talked about not giving up pieces with more points for pieces for less points... unless we had a plan to get a big piece!

* We watched a video about foods around the world. We could see that food and money are different in different countries. We saw how much each lunch would cost in Canadian dollars.

* We watched The One and Only Ivan movie on Wednesday! The movie was a lot different than the book. One thing different in the movie, was that the animals escaped from the mall but then they went back. And also in the movie Ruby sneezed on Mac.

Also there was no claw stick in the movie. Also in the movie Ivan didn't write "home" at the end. We had a lot of opinions. Some people liked the movie better, some people liked the book better and some people liked them both the same.

* This week B.K. brought in a book that has a story to read each day in December.

* In Kilometer club we have a new path. It is in the front part of the school instead of the field. The field is too wet and muddy.

* This week in outdoor ed. we learned about the life cycle of an oak tree. First it is the acorn, then it goes into the dirt, then a sprout comes out then it grows into a tree.

 Dear fantastic parents,

This week:

* We did outdoor ed. We did a scavenger hunt in Oaklands Green in outdoor ed. today. We were looking for nature we could study. We also played "Everybody's It" tag.

* We had gym this week. We played "Disco Tag" yesterday. We also started to learn how to play "Alley Ball" on Monday. In gym on Thursday D.P. showed us her new wheelchair. This chair is special because she can control it with her head. It was amazing! We are also going to do gym this afternoon.

* Mr. Marta read us a story called If Sarah Will Take Me. The story was about a guy who fell off a balcony and hurt his neck. After, he had to go in a special wheelchair because he couldn't use his arms and his legs. He loved art, but he couldn't do it anymore. He wanted to go places but he couldn't get there. His nurse took him to all the places and introduced him to mouth painting. We used markers to draw with our mouth. It was VERY hard. His paintings are amazing!

* We did writing this week. On Monday we had a substitute teacher during writing. Mrs. Marta is doing writing conferences with us and helping us make our new writing goal.

* We have been doing finishing to catch up on our work. If we aren't done our finishing on Monday we will have to work on it during "Brain Bin" time. People who are finished all of their work are helping other people. You aren't supposed to tell them the answers, just help them.

* In chess this week we learned to castle. You move the King and the Rook in the same turn. You are switching their places. After Mr. Churchill teaches us how to play, we get to play chess.

* In art we made "Reindeer at the Window". We made the reindeer out of construction paper. You can see them through the window of our classroom.

* In Social Studies we are learning about culture in Canada. We added arts and customs and food.

* We do reading every day except on Wednesday we do it without Mr. Marta's class.

* Next Wednesday we are going to watch The One and Only Ivan movie with Mr. Marta's class. We are very excited to watch it!

 Dear awesome families,

This week:

* We did gym. We played soccer and basketball. This afternoon in gym Mr. Marta is going to teach us a game called "Disco Tag".

* In Social Studies we are learning about cultures and customs. We were looking at different classrooms all over the world. Some classrooms don't look like ours. We are also learning about Canada.

* At lunch Mrs. Marta is reading us "The One and Only Bob". Bob is a talking dog. In the book a big storm came. Ivan the gorilla is based on a real gorilla.

* In math we did an addition and subtraction check-in sheet. We had 10 minutes to do as many as we can. On Friday in math we played a game called "Make 10 Concentration". We also did some math sheets this week. The grade 2s had to do a colouring sheet of a parrot that you had to answer math questions to find out which colour to put in. The grade 3s worked on fractions while the grade 2s went to music.

* In music the grade 2s are learning a new song called "In our Yard". The grade 3s are playing two songs on the recorder. They are "Hot Cross Buns" and "Au Claire du lune".

* In writing this week the teacher is having conferences with two kids a day while we silent write to see how we are doing with our writing.

* On Monday's we have chess with Mr. Churchill. Over the last few weeks we have learned all the pieces and what they do. Each time we have chess we talk about one or two pieces. This week we talked about the king.

* We had outdoor ed. on Wednesday and Friday. We played everybody's it tag today. On Wednesday we started our self reflections.

* We finished our Remembrance Day project this week. It had poppy art. We also had to write a poem about Remembrance Day and the war. We didn't do a rhyming poem, we did a free verse poem. It was about the soldiers who died.

 Dear awesome amazing cool parents,

This week:

* We did outdoor ed. We had a substitute teacher called Mr. Lyster. We did a scavenger hunt. We were looking for different colours of leaves, pinecones, moss and other nature stuff. We were looking for evidence of Fall.

* We had gym. Today we are playing Treasure Island. On Monday we played Vampire and Ghouls Tic-Tac-Toe.

* We have writing every day. First we do planning, then we do silent write, and then work on write. This week we made a sticky note goal. We had to pick something to work on in our writing. One example is, putting periods at the end of sentences. Another goal could be to leave spaces between words.

* In math we get new sheets every week. We had to go to the teacher table to work on whiteboards. We were working on breaking up numbers into expanded form. For example, 80 + 4 = 84.

We also might do 75 = 70 + 5. You can do the equal sign at the beginning or the end.

* In science we are studying herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We are also studying about decomposers, producers and consumers. A fox is a carnivore. We were surprised a hippopotamus is a herbivore because it is so big. We didn't know all the answers so we learned some from "Professor Google"!

* In music the grade 2s sang songs. One of them was "Purple People-Eater". The grade 3s got their recorders. They were playing "Hot Cross Buns".

* The grade 3s in choir were recorded singing "O Canada" and "Imagine" for the Remembrance Day assembly.

* We did GoNoodle this week. We did "Bones" and we did "Pop See Ko".

Dear magnificent families,

This week we: 

* Here is a photo of the bat art we did last week. It is called "Bats at Night". They are on the bulletin board in the hallway.

* In gym on Monday we did "Stores". We get to pick the equipment we want to use. When we are done, we trade them out for a new thing.

* There was no library this week. We can see that they are painting the library.

* In science we have been learning about life cycles. We also learned about carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores.

* This morning we watched a video of the book "Room on the Broom". Then we did a math problem about it. We worked with partners. You have to use animals to fill 12 spaces on the broom. If you really want to stretch your brain, you could do 30. Witches take 4 spaces, cats take 2 spaces, dogs take 2 spaces, birds take 1 space and frogs take 1 space.

* We did a drawing of a puppet Frankenstein. If you open the mouth it has very big teeth. We watched the video from Art Hub. The video showed us how to do the drawing. It was very, very fun.

* We did outdoor ed. twice this week. All of us drew a picture of the tree in the courtyard. Then you needed to add colour to it. Then we did leaf rubbings.

 Dear awesome families,

This week we:

* We did reading. Every day we do reading alone and then reading together. We do reading alone for 20 minutes. At reading alone we make sure we are reading quietly. We do reading together for however many minutes are left before lunch. We go to Mr. Marta's classroom for reading, except on Wednesday. There are two groups who have started a book club. The books are "The Last Firehawk" and "The Chicken Squad".

* We had gym on Monday. Half the group played soccer with Mrs. Marta and half the group did basketball skills with Mr. Marta. Half way through we switched.

* We did writing every day. First we do planning, then silent write and finally we do work on write.

* During snack we do writing share. Kids can share their writing with the whole class. When they are done we get compliments about our writing, and then we can put it in the student author box.

* We had outdoor ed. on Wednesday. We did leaf rubbings and pictures.

* The grade 2's have music on Tuesday, and the grade 3's have music on Thursday. The grade 2's are learning a song, and the grade 3's are learning how to play the recorder. While the other grades are in music, the rest of the kids have math with either Mrs. or Mr. Marta.

* We have finishing every day. We have A LOT of things on our list.

* This week in art we are making a project called "Bats at Night". First we painted a moon and then did darker and darker blue circles around it. The paints we needed to use were white and blue. Then we cut bats out of construction paper to put on the painting.

* We did brain bins every day. One of the brain bins is straw connecters. There are crosses that you connect the straws with to build houses or buildings or towers. There are different toys in each brain bin. We switch our brain bins with Mr. Marta every week. Another brain bin we do is playdough. One of the brain bins we did this week was cars.

* During our morning routine time we can switch the books in our book box. Before we go to reading at Mr. Marta's room we can take a stuffy to read with or a cushion to sit on.

* At lunch we can go to soccer club if we want. It is at David Spencer field. Wendy takes us over to soccer club. One of the teams was called the "Wolfie Pack". Another team was called "Coyotes". Everyone can go to soccer and the intermediates have one game and the primaries have the other game.

* On Wednesday's the grade three students can go to choir at lunch. We are singing "Imagine" and we got a new song "Oh Canada" this week.

* At recess we get to play games. You can play with your friends or join in with the big soccer games.

* This week we did km club on Tuesday and Thursday. We go to Spencer Field. We need to do five laps to get a tally and a sticker. 3 laps is a km.

* At the end of the day we stack our chairs, do our jobs and get ready to go home. Some of the jobs are: floors, cushions, library, board eraser, vacation, chair boss and others.

* This week we had library on Tuesday. We aren't sure if we are going to have library next week because it might be getting painted.

* This is a list of things we can have in our desk: 3 pencils, an eraser, colouring tools, glue stick, scissors, ruler, paper folder, sharpie, pencil sharpener and pencil box.

 Dear amazing families,

This week we:

* Did KM club twice. We need to do 5 laps around Spencer Field to get a sticker. Some people have a lot of stickers.

* This week we did Social Studies. We are learning about our rights and responsibilities.

* We are doing gym this afternoon. We are going to play Treasure Island. We have fun in gym.

* We did writing every day this week. We do planning, then silent write, then work on write. We make a bunch of stories. When they are published we put them in the student author book bin. We also read our writing to the class. Some people do a lot of writing. When school is done, we will bring our books home so our families can see them.

* This week we did reading every day. You can only choose books in the morning, this is called "book shopping". We can only have 5 books in our book boxes... and only 2 chapter books. Some people use their chairs for shopping carts! We go to Mr. Marta's room for reading (except on Wednesday). We can have reading stuffies. At reading alone time, you have to read just-right books.

* We do "finishing" every day. It is when we finish the work we didn't get done. When you are done finishing, you get to do something quiet at your desk (like drawing, colouring, etc.) At finishing we might do math, art, social studies, science or other things.

* We do brain bins every single day. They have cars and fun building toys in them. One of them has fake money that we can sort. You can only do each brain bin once a week. There can only be four people at a brain bin. Each week we trade brain bins with Mr. Marta.

We have to go to reading now, even though we have more to tell you!
