Our First Post - Thursday Sept. 22, 2022

 Dear fantastic people,

This is our first blog.

This is our classroom. It is so beautiful. The colours are so beautiful. We keep our classroom clean. You could come visit our classroom.

We are getting postcards from around the world. The first one was from California and had the Golden Gate Bridge on it. The second one came from Oklahoma. It has a dumpy frog on it. We also sent two postcards. One went to the U.S.A. the other one went to Germany.

We made self portraits.  There are clues underneath about us. We drew ourselves and then a thought bubble that showed what we like.

Thank you for reading our first blog.

Friday May 6, 2022

 Dear amazing parents,

This week:

* We only did writing two times. We miss having writing.

* In science we have been learning about the water cycle. We put a baggie with water on the window. B.K. thinks the water is going to go down. S.A. thinks the water will make bubbles. N.J. thinks the water will turn green. P.Z. thinks the water will evaporate and we won't have any water on Monday. H.C. thinks the pictures on the bag will get smaller? F.U. thinks the pictures will fade because of the sun.

* Today we are playing Dungeon Ball in gym. Yesterday we did a great job in gym. We were practicing passing the baton. We were such good listeners that Ms. Swim said we could play Dungeon Ball today.

* In reading all the book clubs are on their last section.

* In outdoor ed. we tested our boats in water. We made nature boats out of sticks, string and other nature we found in the courtyard.

* We are on our last week of printing. Mrs. Marta hopes everyone will finish soon!😀

* Ms. Swim has been teaching us math for awhile. We've been learning about measuring. We learned about meters this week. Yesterday and today we practiced measuring the perimeter of objects and shapes.

Good-bye!

The children🙋

Friday April 29

 Dear gorgeous, amazing, awesome parents,

This week:

* We have been doing all of the math with Miss Swim this week. We have been doing measuring. We used a tape measure or a ruler to measure in cm.

* This week in gym we have been working on running. The grade 3 students will get a chance to go to the track meet on May 27. Miss Swim has been teaching us gym this week.

* Ms. Sloboda was working in the office this week. Today in Outdoor Ed. we went to the purple park with Ms. Richter. On the way to the purple park we were admiring plants.

* In Social Studies we started learning about Manitoba. In Manitoba you can go on boats in the Assiniboine River. You can also swim with beluga whales in the Hudson Bay. You can also go in tundra buggies to see polar bears.

* In music we played the cup song! You do the clap song by: clap clap table table clap up down. (This is the only the first part.)

* In reading we are still having book club meetings. Most book clubs are getting to the end of the books soon.

* We haven't had much writing time this week. It made E.B. say "Waaaaaah". Next week Mrs. Marta will try to make sure we get more writing.

* For recess we go to play in the rock garden and bucket ball area.

Friday April 22, 2022

 Dear amazing parents,

This week:

* We had three gyms this week. The first gym was for N.V's birthday gym. The second gym was a bonus gym with Mr. Marta's class. We played Dungeon Ball. Friday we have our regular gym and we are playing "Stores".

* We have been learning about the provinces. So far we have learned about Canada, British Columbia and Alberta. Here is an interesting fact about Alberta: the wild rose is the official flower. West Edmonton Mall has the biggest parking lot in the world! Today we are learning about Saskatchewan.

* In outdoor ed. we made nature boats. The only thing we used that wasn't nature was string. Ms. Sloboda had a wheelbarrow with water in it. First we checked if they could float. Then she made a storm with the hose and we tested if our boats could survive a storm. We pretended one of the rocks in the wheelbarrow was like an iceberg from Titanic.

* This week in km. club we started to go back to Spencer field.

* In math we learned some strategies for 2-digit subtraction. They are place value and rounding up.

* In reading we are all working on a book club! There is Alvin Ho: Allergic to Girls, School and other Scary Things, The Chicken Squad, The Escapades of Clint McCool, and Nate the Great.

* We are prepping for student led conferences. We are excited for you to come see our classroom and our work next Wednesday.

* This week we had soccer club at lunch recess.

Friday April 8, 2022

 Dear amazing parents,

This week:

* We did a lot of Social Studies this week. We worked on our Inuit book and started learning about Canada. We watched videos, looked at a website, and asked Professor Google some questions about Canada. After we found our information we had to write down important facts.

- Canada is famous for poutine.

- The maple leaf is not an official logo (it is an unofficial logo).

- Canada is the second biggest country in the world.

- Canada is known for it's people always saying "sorry".

* We are doing gym this afternoon. We are doing stations.

* This week everyone got a book club. The books are: Alvin Ho:allergic to girls, school and other scary things, Chicken Squad, Clint McCool, and Nate the Great.

* This afternoon we are going to have 50 minutes of finishing. We have so much work to finish!

* In outdoor ed. we cleaned up the courtyard. We pulled weeds and picked up leaves.

* This week we have a new music teacher because Mrs. Poulsen had a baby. Our new music teacher is Mr. Day.

Friday March 18, 2022

 Dear fantastic perfect families,

This week:

* Today we have gym. We are celebrating E.B's birthday. His birthday is on Spring Break. He is choosing Dungeon Ball for his birthday game.

* In S.S. we kept working on our Inuit books. Some people are finished and today O.S. shared his book with the class.

* In Science we tried to move an aluminum can with a balloon. We rubbed the balloon on our hair to create static electricity. Then we tried to use the static electricity to make the can move. We had races to see who could make it go fastest. The Cookie Monster team won. (That was H.C. and P.Z.). The "Static Electricity" team (Y.D. and B.K.) were actually fastest, but the Cookie Monster team got moving first.

* We had our first assembly in the gym yesterday. Only the grade 2 and 3 went to our assembly. The grade 5 strings students performed for us. They had cellos, violins and violas. They played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star in peanut butter sticky form (that means ti tis and tas). All of the grade 2 and 3 students sang O Canada at the beginning of the assembly.

* Yesterday we brought our report cards home. Mrs. Marta would like us to return the envelopes to her after Spring Break. Mrs. Marta told us she took HOURS to write them!

* Yesterday we learned about Michelangelo. We had to practice doing art on the bottom of our desks. Michelangelo painted the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel for four years.

* We are very excited because of after gym today it will be Spring Break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a fun Spring Break!

Friday March 11, 2022

 Dear good parents,

This week:

* We have gym this afternoon. We are going to practice throwing at a target and then play two games.

* In Social Studies we started to make our Inuit books. Everyone has to do at least four pages. B.K. already has 10 pages!!!!!!!!!!

* We have been working on a very hard art this week. It is of the aurora borealis. We have to make an Arctic animal looking at the northern lights. We are using soft oil pastels. They are very hard to blend. We did a rough copy first to practice. Then we are doing a good copy.

* This week we jazzed up a very boring story that Mrs. Marta wrote. The story was about a bunny who needs to find his carrots.

* In math

* In outdoor ed. we learned about animal tracks. We also played a game called "Banana Peel". It had three taggers. When you get caught you stand with your hands over your head like a banana. To get free someone has to gently open your hands.

* H.H. brought in her pennies to show us. She put vinegar on hers at home. They turned very blue and green. Some of the pennies had white stuff on it, but now that is turning light blue and silver. We think hers turned more green because she only put vinegar on one time. The pennies turn green because the oxygen reacts with the copper in the penny. Then it makes blue or green stuff called malachite. The vinegar makes it go faster.

Have a fun weekend!
