Friday Nov. 25, 2022

 Dear amazing families,

This week:

* We learned about the penguin's life cycle (egg, chick, fledgling and adult penguin) and the frog life cycle (egg, tadpole, froglet, adult frog).

* In science, we learned about metamorphic and non-metamorphic life cycles. Metamorphic means that during the life cycles the animals will change. An example, is the frog life cycle. When it is a tadpole it has a long tail, no legs and is black. When it is an adult frog it is green, has no tail and has four legs. Non-metamorphic means it doesn't change it just grows bigger. An example is a penguin.

* Today we celebrated S.V.'s birthday. He picked a Robert Munsch book for his story. We will have his birthday gym on Monday (the gym is closed today).

* In gym, we played museum, zombie tag, diamond tag, everybody's it tag, evolution and jewel thief. We also practiced throwing at the targets. At the end of gym we do "calm bodies".

* In the classroom we did "GoNoodle".

* In music, we have been practicing for the winter concert. Did you send in your notice to get your tickets?

* In Social Studies we have been learning about Vietnam's culture. This week we learned about customs, clothing and art.

* For art we made "Reindeer at the Window". The reindeer look like they are trying to get out of the window. You could make them any way you want... they just had to look like reindeer trying to get out the window. We used black, white, brown, blue and red paper. You can see them if you look way up at the window's of our classroom.

* In writing some people have been sharing the books that they have finished. We are also learning some different ways to say words. For example, for scared you could say frightened, terrified, horrified, afraid or spooked. During writing you can write about anything. During the work on write Mrs. Marta meets with us to get our stories to type. We also put strengths and goals in our writing folders.

This week E.B. read a story about Lisa and a tiger. Then Mrs. Marta showed us a picture of her petting a tiger. She was very frightened, petrified and spooked.

* We got postcards from T.N.'s grandpa's cousin in Denmark. We also got a postcard from Taiwan. That is only our second postcard from Asia.

We hope you have a great weekend.

Friday November 18, 2022

 Dear amazing families,

This week we:

* We watched 2 Mojo videos and 1 travel kids.

    - We learned about neurons in the brain. To grow your brain you have to learn challenging things.

- Mojo also taught us that it is okay to ask for help, mistakes are good. We also learned to say, "I can't do it YET!"

* In writing we have been learning some descriptive words. Sometimes we call them fancy words. Yesterday we found fancy words for little (teensy weensy, tiny, small), ran (sped, dashed, sprinted) and said (answered, replied, yelled). Mrs. Marta would like us to use fancy words in our writing.

* In gym this week we played Dungeon Ball, Squirrel Tag, Pirate Battle, Skittles and Diamond Tag. We also practiced throwing at the targets on the wall.

* At reading sometimes we read with a grown up. Some people are doing book clubs and the others are reading their own books. We also do book studies in reading.

* This week we got postcards from Germany and the Czech Republic. We sent postcards to the U.S.A. and The Netherlands.

* In music we are practicing songs for the winter concert. Our finale is "When Will the Holidays Come?". We are also doing a song with another class and we are doing "Rock n' Roll Snowman".

* Tuesday was fun pizza lunch day! We had mini pizzas.

* In science, we are making life cycles of a frog.

* In math we are learning how to do addition with partitioning. Some people started learning how to do addition with expanded form this week.

We hope you enjoy the weekend.

 Dear fabulous families,

This week:

* We got some new postcards. This week our postcards came from Maryland, U.S.A., Belarus (in Europe) and Michigan, U.S.A. We sent postcards to Slovenia and Taiwan. Last week we got a postcard from L.S. grandmother in Osaka Japan and T.N.'s Auntie in Yellowknife.

* Yesterday we watched the movie The One and Only Ivan. At the movie we could have blankets, stuffies, pillows and snacks. Most people liked the movie better than the book. Lots of people liked both.

* On Wednesday Ms. Glover came in and did storymaking with us. She gave us lots of random pieces of stuff and we had to make up a story with it.

* In music we were practicing our song for next week's assembly.

* In stem we used blocks to try and make triangles. We made a big triangle with a bunch of little triangles.

* On Halloween we started a stem challenge. You had specific supplies and you had to make a structure that could hold a bunch of skeletons and pumpkins.

* On Halloween we made spider cupcakes.  We decorated the cupcake with frosting, sprinkles (for fur), smarties (for eyes) and licorice (for the legs).

* This week we learned a few new writing tips. For example, stories have characters, settings and problems. You could use any of these things to make an interesting story.

* Last Friday we had I.S-H.'s birthday. For gym she chose a lot of running games. We were VERY tired. For her book she chose The Tub People.

* In gym this week we did Diamond Tag, Zombie Tag, throwing practice, skittles, and calm bodies.

* In science we learned facts about two ecosystems named Antarctica and Grasslands. In grasslands there are many different types of flowers (there are hardly any trees) and many types of animals live there. One of the animals is called a bison. It looks kind of like a bull.

Friday October 14, 2022

 Dear loving families,

This week:

* We had student nurses visit us. They were showing us how to wash our hands better. They put fake germs on our hands that glow in the dark. Then after we washed our hands they checked if we got all the germs off. Then they gave us a sticker. We also had some colouring sheets to do while they were with us.

* In Art we made a minion of ourselves. It was very funny and cute.

* This week we got a postcard from Niagara Falls and we sent a postcard to San Diego.

* Today we celebrated C.C.'s birthday. In gym she picked the games Museum, Octopus and Angry Cats. At the end of gym we did calm bodies. This afternoon she gets to pick the story we read.

* Every day at snack time Mrs. Marta reads to us. Right now we are reading The One and Only Ivan. We are at the part where Julia and George are going to put Ivan's sign up on the billboard. We think Ruby will get to go to the zoo. (Ruby is baby elephant and Ivan is a Silverback Gorilla)

* In Stem we checked if we poked sharp pencils in a bag of water if the water would stay in or come out. It stayed in. The Stem teacher asked us which bag was more expensive Ziploc or a plastic bag.

* In Music we sang the Hello song. We also met a new teacher (a substitute). We also did Freeze Dance.

* In Science we talked about living and non-living things.

We hope you have a great weekend!

Friday Oct. 7 2022

Dear incredible families,

This week:

* We made Salvadore Dali birds with paint. He is a very talented artist who does surrealistic art. Surrealism means not real. The art is not what you expect. Our birds have really long legs. They have feathers, antennae, wings and tails made of interesting things.

* We did some Thanksgiving writing. We wrote about what we are thankful for. We made a bad copy and a good copy, and then we coloured in a Thanksgiving dinner.

* We watched a video about Mojo. He thought he wasn't smart enough for the math questions because they got harder.  At first he argued a bit and didn't want to. Then when he was doing the questions he was exercising his brain. When he was about to leave his friend told him, "You can do this. Don't stop. You will get better." We learned you can do stuff even if it's hard.

* In Gym we played Diamond Tag, Zombie Tag, Skittles, What Time is it Mr. Fox and Evolution.

* In Music we played the indigenous drums. With the drums we had to follow the pattern Mrs. Jones did. The teachers made the drums from scratch. We played the hello song. We also played the "Dollar Song" game.

* This week in Stem we made a flower out of a coffee filter. We put water droplets from and eye dropper on it. It looked like it was growing because it expanded.

Thank you for reading our blog by Mrs. Marta's grade 2/3 class.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Thursday Sept. 29, 2022

Dear amazing families,
We did a lot of work, even though it was a short week.
This week we got a postcard from Germany from a city called Dusseldorf. We also sent a postcard to someone in Austria which is right beside Germany.

We worked really hard on our bug art. We used pastels to make symmetrical bugs. We also had to think about patterns and colours to finish the project.  Here are our bugs!

This week we ran for Terry Fox, we wrote about him, and we drew pictures about him. He had cancer in his bones and had to have his leg amputated because back then the doctors didn't know how to fix it yet. Even with a prosthetic leg he ran a marathon every day. He had to get up really early in the morning to start.

We all have a job to do in the classroom. We do the job for a whole week before we switch. Some of us are on cushions. That means you can use it to sit on during the day, and make sure it is put away at the end of the day. You could invite people to sit on the cushion with you.

We also do brain bins. There are toys and games and puzzles we can do. We do brain bins each day when we are done our agendas.

We made our own nametags for our desks and our coat hooks.

Every time we eat snack Mrs. Marta reads us the book The One and Only Ivan. Ivan is a silverback gorilla.

When we have lunch we have lunch monitors in the room.

In music we did some indigenous drumming. We were practicing our songs. This afternoon we are doing drumming with Mr. Bear.

In Stem we built a bridge this week. You could only use one can of playdough and 20 toothpicks. There were piles of books that we put each end of the bridge on.

When we are in the hallway we are super quiet so we don't disturb other classes. When we are on the metal stairs we use marshmallow feet so we are extra quiet.

Our First Post - Thursday Sept. 22, 2022

 Dear fantastic people,

This is our first blog.

This is our classroom. It is so beautiful. The colours are so beautiful. We keep our classroom clean. You could come visit our classroom.

We are getting postcards from around the world. The first one was from California and had the Golden Gate Bridge on it. The second one came from Oklahoma. It has a dumpy frog on it. We also sent two postcards. One went to the U.S.A. the other one went to Germany.

We made self portraits.  There are clues underneath about us. We drew ourselves and then a thought bubble that showed what we like.

Thank you for reading our first blog.
